Theories are important in the profession of occupational therapy because it allows the OT to understand which interventions to implement. In addition, theories allow the occupational therapist to look at the client in a holistic manner and not just the problem that is occurring. Holistically, we are looking at the person and the environment and determining how these factor's effect their occupations. My favorite model so far is the KAWA model! I like this model the best because it uses metpahors to relate to key concepts. This model looks at the flow of life in comparison to occupational performance. Often times we will come across barriers in life, but that does not mean it is the end. We still have the ability for growth and "flow"!
