The idea of universal design is so important because it affords
everyone the same opportunity and it makes resources accessible to all. It does
not single out individuals who might have a disability, by age, race, or status
in life; instead, it conforms to everyone. Due to this, I feel that society
will look at and treat people with disabilities equally. The great thing about
universal design is that it is flexible in use! People across a lifespan will
be able to use the resources; therefore, maximizing the use of materials and
the environment. Example of universal designs are as followed: automatic soap
dispensers, curb ramps, elevators, or automatic door openers. By promoting the
idea of universal design, people will be able to fulfil their occupations in a
low physical effort!
